advice is some sort of a guidance that we give to someone which can help them get through with their problems, help them solve those troubles and/or complications. as an enlightenment, per se.

A: "becca, i need some advice."
B: "what seems to be the problem?"
A: "you see, it is my mom's birthday tomorrow. i still do not know what kind of present i should get her!"
B: "let's make this easy, what is your mom's favorite thing to do? listening to old classic music, perhaps?"
A: "oh, my! exactly. mom loves classic jazz!"
B: "there you go! you can get her a record player. and buy her some records as well, obviously. those two things go hand in hand."
A: "wonderful idea. plus, it would not be a waste of money. i know she would use it all the time! thanks a lot becca!"
B: "anything for my best friend! you are welcome, annie!"
